'Vest' [70 x 36 cms] Siân Martin

Influenced by the 19th century Broderie Anglaise embroidery of delicate floral patterns of eyelet holes and decorative white-work stitching in garments such as babies' bonnets and gowns, collars and chemises. This 'Vest', a protective and warming garment, is made in homage to 'the flowers' of Ayrshire whose fine hand stitching was made obsolete by early sewing machines around 1840.
