I am a freelance tutor and taught City and Guilds embroidery at Fareham College, Hampshire, for many years. I worked for over 20 years as National Advisor and External Verifier for the City and Guilds Creative Studies. I am a member of the Textile Study Group and the Westhope Group and have exhibited both at home and abroad.

I enjoy the process of drawing and recording ideas in sketchbooks, that then lead to sampling and development and much of my inspiration comes from nature, the countryside and exploring historical influences. I find the act of researching and planning an interesting part of every experience. Lately this has been on the necessary qualities to allow textiles to withstand the vagaries of our weather. The successful pieces will be exhibited in the grounds of Luton Museum throughout next winter.

The use of traditional lacemaking techniques in paper yarns to produce large sculptures fascinates me. I then further embellish these with paper and stitch. I also like to explore the use of painted fabrics as a palette and work with them in a painterly way, incorporating and adding more paper and stitch.
