A collection of handmade book structures using individual binding methods and hand printed fabrics and papers.

Mary is a teacher and maker of textile art and books. She trained at Carlisle College of Art, and the Royal College of Art (London) concentrating mainly on printing and weaving. She now teaches adult groups and art students.

She has recently completed a three year, part time course in Bookbinding at Bristol City College, and now enjoys combining her knowledge of textiles with the creation of handmade papers and book structures.

A recent major research project has involved the drawing and photographing of allotment sheds throughout the country, recording a vast collection of individual structures, often using recycled materials. These sheds are now dwindling in numbers and may easily be forgotten. Mary finds these constructions contribute to her ideas for book structures with the combination of unusual materials.

She contributed sections on design to Needlework School and the chapter on research and design development based on a Chinese jacket for Embroidery Studio.
